Story of the Aarey Fresh Vegetables Bag
Aarey – the green lung of Mumbai – is home to 70-odd villages or padas. The local tribal families have now begun selling fresh vegetables from their farms. This is part of the Aarey tribal women’s empowerment programme – a brand called Tribal Tadka.
Tribal Tadka brought the women together to boost their collective skills. They sell homemade produce like chutneys, papads, cooking ingredients, spices, sweets and more.
The Aarey Fresh Vegetables Bag is the latest initiative by Tribal Tadka. Each bag contains genuine organic leafy and other vegetables, picked on a weekly basis. The items in the Aarey Fresh Vegetables Bag depend on the crop of ready vegetables reaped by the farmers.
Ladies collect the produce from the various farms, clean and sort them and then bundle them for sale. They make them available for buyers in and around Goregaon east areas, to minimise transportation costs. Hence, a fixed pick-up point is preferred. This not only reduces their carbon footprint but also saves their time and labour. The latter is precious as there are families, farms and household chores to tend to.
So, come out in support of these local farmers of Aarey Colony and gain fresh farm produce every week!
