In Sweet Company!

Not only does Ganesh Chaturti herald the arrival of all major Indian festivals and poojas but also the time to start planning the shopping and ensuing budgets. Clothes, home décor, gifts and of course – the omnipresent mithai! That’s the one that occupies the top spot on your list, in terms of significance and economy. But should the pocket always be pinched when the mithai boxes are packing a punch?

The Sweet Company, new on the mithai scene, creates and sells a varied range of Indian sweets at more reasonable prices. Operated online – in that orders are placed online and delivered to your doorstep – this service deserves a try when you’re thinking of purchasing mithai the next time. Which is pretty soon, since our Modak-loving deity is preparing for his arrival!

‘The Sweet Company’, partner Vikas Parikh tells me, ‘was born from the passion for Indian mithai’. It works with the aim to make mithai shopping a sweeter experience for buyers who are often paying very escalated prices when they seek to buy products of superior quality. By making available high-quality offerings made by using pure and unadulterated ingredients at reasonable prices, The Sweet Company is creating a new shopping experience. Deliveries are being made in Mumbai and other cities, as well as overseas.

The range of mithai is categorised into Classics, Healthy Treats, Exotic Bites and Sugar-free Bliss. While the Classics and Exotic Bites include popular sweets that are mainstays of the mithai genre, the Healthy Treats and Sugar-free bliss are promising too.

‘All sweets get their sweetness from jaggery,’elaborates Parikh. ‘Lots of healthy ingredients are used for making these sweets – nachni, dried ginger powder, gondh, black gram flour, multigrain flour, etc.’ The Dry Fruit Bomb, Nachni Laddoo and Jaggery Kalakand are top picks in the Healthy Treats menu.

As for the Sugar-free Bliss, The Sweet Company claims to not use any sugar or substitute (artificial sweeteners and such ingredients). It is the combination of dry fruits itself that provides the sweetness. Black Magic (made from Black Raisins and Anjeer) and Apricot Discs are favorites, we’re told.

The Modak menu is also formidable, with five Mawa-based and about 10 fruit and dry fruit- based Modaks included in their offerings.

What’s appealing is that the mithai made by The Sweet Company stay away from being cloyingly sweet. The taste is well-balanced and fresh. Customisation  of your order is also readily done. With reasonable rates and home delivery options, it looks like a winning combination.
