DIY Ice Cream Sticks Games

Playing games like dominoes and solving puzzles help children focus, build their logical skills and eye hand coordination. Here are some simple and quick ways to make super fun DIY games using ice cream sticks. These games will help children recognise colours, shapes, pattern and following sequence. You can also can create many variations in these games using your own imagination.

DIY Game 1- Dominoes

Supplies

  • Ice cream sticks
  • Paints
  • Black marker

Step 1 Colour both the edges of ice cream sticks with assorted paints. Paint some ice cream sticks with two different colours on edges and some with same colour paint.

Step 2 Let it dry. Make a mark using black marker as shown in the picture.

Step 3 Give the dominoes pieces to your children and instruct them to match them. Let them match the colours on the edges and build a chain of dominoes.

DIY Game 2- Shape Dominoes

Supplies

  • Assorted colour chart papers
  • Glue
  • Ice cream sticks
  • Scissors

Step 1 Draw and cut four different shapes using assorted colour chart papers.

Step 2 Stick the shapes on both the edges of ice cream sticks as shown in the picture. Let it dry completely.

Step 3 Give the shape dominoes to your children and instruct them to match the shapes and build a chain of shape dominoes.

DIY Game 3 – Pattern matching dominoes

Supplies

  • Assorted colour chart papers
  • Glue
  • Ice cream sticks
  • Scissors

Step 1 Draw and cut shapes from assorted colour chart papers. Now take two ice cream sticks and stick two different shapes of two different colours on both edges in a way so that there remains a little gap between the two sticks.

Step 2 Let it dry completely and then cut the shapes into half so you will get two Ice cream sticks with half shapes on each stick.

Step 3 Jumble all the sticks sets and give it to your child. Let them match shape and colour with sticks.

DIY Game 4 – Puzzles

Supplies

  • Ice cream sticks
  • Paints

Step 1 Take at least 8 to 10 ice cream sticks and draw a shape on it and colour it. Let it dry completely.

Step 2 If you do not want to draw and paint then cut a nice object picture from children’s old books or magazines. Stick this picture cut out on all the sticks living little space between sticks. Let it dry completely and then cut the picture horizontally so that each stick is left with a part of the whole picture/object.

Step 3 Give this puzzle pieces to children to solve it and make it into a whole picture.

DIY Game 5 – Colour and pattern matching

Supplies

  • Ice cream sticks
  • Coloured ice cream sticks
  • A4 size white sheets or chart papers
  • Assorted colour chart papers
  • Paints/crayons

Step 1 Trace ice cream sticks shape patterns on A4 sheets or white chart paper. Colour/paint traced patterns.

Step 2 Give coloured ice cream sticks to children and instruct them to place coloured ice cream sticks to match patterns. (*if you don’t have coloured ice cream sticks then paint the sticks with different colours paints)

Step 3 (Variation in above activity) Draw and cut any shape in small size on coloured chart papers.

Step 4 Trace ice cream stick shape on A4 sheet as shown in the picture.

Step 5 Stick three shape cut outs on each ice cream stick and on A4 sheet in same colour sequence.

Step 6 Give ice cream sticks to the children and instruct them to match colour and pattern stick on A4 sheet.
